Scientific publication from the Physics Institute received the Best Paper Award

Emerging Investigator Award des Journal of Chemical Physics 2022 für Katrin Erath-Dulitz

The Journal of Chemical Physics gives Katrin Erath-Dulitz one of two Best Paper Awards for the scientific article

"Spin-state-controlled chemi-ionization reactions between metastable helium atoms and ground-state lithium atoms".

The specialist article was created as part of the research work for Tobias Sixt's dissertation at the Physics Institute of the University of Freiburg, under the guidance of Katrin Erath-Dulitz (Prof. F. Stienkemeier's working group), and is part of the Emerging Investigators Special Collection 2022, to which up-and-coming young scientists are invited became. In the award-winning work, the authors use laser radiation to prepare the spin states of the atoms. In this way, they can manipulate the rate of chemical reactions between lithium and excited helium atoms. The ability to control such reactions in a targeted manner is a crucial step in order to capture the two types of atoms over long periods of time and then to carry out precise physical measurements that are important for quantum science. Katrin Erath-Dulitz has been working as an assistant professor for physics at the University of Innsbruck since September 2022.
